A New Pirate Generation
Of course I’m talking about the amazing song by the Pittsburgh-based Buzz Poets. Sure, we’re five years into the PNC Park Era and I don’t think we can call it a new generation anymore, but that doesn’t take away from this song’s excellence. It embodied the hope that came from a new ballpark, and it’s something that we are still able to cling to today. They got rid of A New Pirate Generation for a while last year, but they brought it back after fans went mad. It certainly beats the heck out of this new crap. I’ve found the track nearly impossible to find, so I have put a copy on the site to help all you guys out. Make the jump and see the full lyrics, along with the extended CD version of the song.
Lyrics:
Take me out to where the Pirates play
Watch the sights, cheer the plays, feel the glory of yesterday.
Centerfield, grand slams, fans and Cracker Jack
Crowd cheers, I don’t care if I ever get back
I listen to the game with my radio on
Clap along to the rhythm of a Bucco song
Two aboard, full count with nobody out
Stomp your feet, line drive everybody shout
Root, root, root for our home team
A new Pirate generation everybody shout, “Let’s Go Bucs!”
With every slide there’ll be Pittsburgh pride
At the ol’ ball game everybody shout, Let’s Go Bucs!
Cross the bridge, through the gate to the field of green
Young and old stories told from your childhood dream
Pops, Wagner, Traynor, Maz, and heroes yet to be named
Great catch, clutch hits like Clemente played
I listen to the game with my radio on
Clap along to the rhythm of a Bucco song
Two aboard, full count with nobody out
Stomp your feet, line drive everybody shout
Root, root, root for our home team
A new Pirate generation everybody shout, “Let’s Go Bucs!”

[…] The last Pirate’s song we posted was a bit better known, but not nearly as funny as the one released recently by local radio station WDVE. This ditty, sung to the tune of “Hey There Delilah” by Plain White T’s, was released towards the end of the season but I’ve only recently discovered it. Listen to the song and check the lyrics after the jump. […]

Are you serious? That song is the corniest song I’ve ever heard. But then again, the “Here we goes Steelers” song is also a hit in Pittsburgh, so maybe I’ve overestimated the taste of my fellow Pittsburghers.
