Liveblogging a Rain Delay

Well, there’s a rain delay and I’m by my radio, so I’m going to livblog the rain delay and hope that there are some irate fans calling up and making fools out of the Pirate announcers. Wait, the Pirate announcers don’t need fans to make fools out of them.

  • Caller Greg wants to know if they’ll get to .500, Pirates announcers don’t think so. Bob Walk calls it “unexpected.”
  • The second caller is pontificating on Jason Bay. He just compared him to Jerome Walton, which is hilarious. I think the Pirate announcers fell asleep during the call, as it took them a couple of seconds to answer after the caller finally stopped talking. Maybe the Pirates should get Jason Bay checked for ADD. Then they could have advertisements about the risk of that instead of random other injuries. Think about it . . . Bay and LaRoche could be standing there and then just run away and say, “We have ADD. And we’re successful baseball players.” at which point Jim Tracy could talk about the risks of ADD for a few minutes. The ads would certainly be better than the ones they have out now and could even be labeled public service announcements.
  • Now they’re talking about hitting a ball off of a tee and seeing pitches properly. Yawn. They just discussed the dangers of trying to pull the ball, which Jose Castillo had problems with two years ago and last year, leading him to the bench. The best way to handle this is to try to get Bay to pepper the rightfield wall, I think.
  • “I think if a ball is caught in foul territory, we like to say it’s caught in foul territory.” “I think that the color guy isn’t as into the detail, but the play-by-play guy is.” What about when the play-by-play guy goes to get hot dogs, like the Pirate announcers seem to be doing every other game?
  • John is up. First question, what pitcher do you see coming on next? Um, Tony Armas? Why isn’t Sanchez playing third? Because he’s finally getting comfortable at second and you should let him be comfortable there, not mess with his head. Is Tracy losing the team? Already did that. The announcers disagree with that, but it seems like Lloyd McClendon got more out of worse baseball teams than Tracy has out of his teams.
  • Oy. This is boring. I’m gonna go find something to do and pick this up in a little bit.
