A Wily Mo Pena Tidbit
Sorting through old issues of Sports Illustrated reveals tons of interesting stuff. For instance, in the SI Players Poll on June 18 (the issue which has Oliver Perez on the cover, interestingly enough), the question is “Which player gets the least out of the most talent?”
Pena took the poll in a landslide, receiving 13 percent of the vote. Teammate J.D. Drew finished second, but in the blurb below is a quote from David Ortiz saying, “[Pena's] power is unbelievable. . . . (sic) Nobody hits the ball like Mo-nobody.”
So, considering that there is some truth in most rumors, the Pirates would be getting a player with prodigious power and Jose Castillo’s mentality in return for a relief pitcher? At least the Pirates wouldn’t be getting the reliever this time around. And, for better or, much more likely, worse, Pena seems like he would fit right in to this Pirate lineup.
