Latest Scoop
4:48 - Littlefield just announced on FOX that the Pirates traded Rajai Davis and a player to be named later for Matt Morris. Check back later tonight for more on this, a further review of Littlefield’s appearance on Bendel and Benz, and a recap of the game.
4:53 - Morris is under contract this year and next year, with a club option in 2009. The contract is very expensive, at $9.5 million next year with a $9 million club option (or a $1 million buyout) in 2009. That’s a ton of money for a #5 starter. Could the Giants be picking up some of his contract? Nope.
5:54 - From the AP report:
The Giants were looking for a team to take some of their high-salaried players, and the Pirates will pick up all of the remainder of Morris’ $10,037,283 contract for this season.
Thats pretty painful. Not only did we fail to give away our highest paid player (Jack), we acquired an even more expensive one. It appears that this was a three-way deal that fell apart at the last moment, and the Pirates were left with the short end of the stick.
