Peter Forsberg . . . Penguin?
(Ed. This is all speculation for now.)
There is a rumor floating around the internet that Peter Forsberg is interested in becoming a Penguin. The veteran is a superstar-caliber player when he is not injured, but he seems to have a knack for being hurt. More after the jump:
Just because I enjoy speculating, the deal would probably be one year, for about three million dollars (think Paul Kariya in Colorado two years ago). The goal would be for Forsberg to rekindle his career and pad his legacy while helping the Penguins on their march to the Stanley Cup.
The most interesting part about this rumor is that Forsberg contacted the Penguins himself, not through an agent, not Ray Shero calling him. He wants to play for a winner and a team that he figures will be in the national spotlight and he thinks that the Penguins could be that team. That is high praise from a player of Forsberg’s potential quality.
Just think about these lines:
First line: Peter Forsberg - Sidney Crosby - Peter Sykora
Second line: Jordan Staal - Evgeni Malkin - Eric Christensen (maybe flip Sykora and Christensen)
Third line: Gary Roberts - Maxime Talbot - Colby Armstrong
Fourth line: Jarko Ruutu - Ryan Stone - Mark Recchi
Extras: Ryan Malone (he can’t even find a spot in that lineup!) and Georges Laraque with Jordan Filewich simply waiting for a spot at Wilkes-Barre.
This year could be a very special one in the Igloo even if Forsberg doesn’t sign.

Go back and re-read your rumor source. (ahem, HFboards)
Ray Shero has come out and said there had been NO contact from Forsberg or his agent. The whole story was a complete fabrication.
To his credit, Shero did say however that he would most likely listen if Peter or his agent, Don Baizley were to call.

Actually, our source (if you would click the link) was Pittsburgh Sports Insider, which is generally reliable. They also cited the Denver Post. Would you mind directing me towards your contradictory sources?
