At It Again

Louisville’s completely not vaunted defense suffered a loss Thursday as linebacker Willie Williams was kicked off of the team following his arrest on marijuana charges.  This is the same guy who was arrested 11 times before he was recruited and has since left Miami, his original school.

There are so many jokes to make about this situation including the requisite addition of Williams to the all-criminal football team (QBed by Michael Vick, of course), but this story is just sort of sad.  The kid came from the wrong place and couldn’t turn it around, completely unable to tap into his obviously impressive skill level due to constant off the field problems.

Louisville’s defense will suffer a small loss due to this, as the addition of Williams seemed to basically be like inking a high level recruit, but honestly, could that defense be that much worse than it already is?  Losing to Syracuse is just embarrassing right now and Andrew Robinson is no Andre’ Woodson.  Louisville’s offense is obviously still an extremely high-powered unit, but the team doesn’t have the same focus that it did last season and will now be fighting for a place in the pretty stacked Big East where a South Florida program is gradually becoming elite and West Virginia and Rutgers have two of the best running games in the country.

At some point, the coaches there must change their path, focusing on offense and defense instead of just Brian Brohm’s golden arm.  Willie Williams must apparently change his path in a similar manner even though he may have already blown any chance he had.

Maybe Pitt will be able to score on Louisville . . .
