Starting Your Career on the Wrong Foot

Philadelphia Flyers rookie Steve Downie has been suspended for 20 games following a blatantly cheap shot on the Ottawa Senators’ Dean McAmmond. Now, I know he doesn’t have much experience in the NHL, but he broke three of hockey’s biggest rules.

  1. Don’t hit someone that can’t see you coming.
  2. Don’t hit a player who doesn’t have possession of the puck.
  3. Don’t leave your feet when hitting someone.

However, Downie decided to ignore all three rules and, as a result, sent another player to the hospital with a concussion. He even had the guts to say it looked like a clean hit. Players like Downie are the ones who give the league a bad name. He doesn’t even belong in the AHL.

Hit the jump for a video of the hit.
