Neal Huntington Needs to Move. Now.
The World Series is over, the Red Sox are the world champions, Alex Rodriguez is again a mercenary, and the Yankees hired the right manager. All seems right with the world except the Pirates are still completely without a manager and Opie Neal Huntington is reportedly on the prowl . . . except he has not interviewed any one of his many reported candidates yet.
If the reports that his main targets are John Farrell, Joel Skinner, and Tory Lovullo are true, then it is time for Huntington to start moving. His three top candidates are now completely out of the postseason and it is time for is courtesies to other teams to end.
Huntington has his own baseball club to build and he has to stop respecting the other clubs’ good wishes. If he wants to hire John Farrell, he should have the interview scheduled for tomorrow and the announcement (assuming all goes well) scheduled for Thursday.
Huntington still has to fill out way too much of his staff to fill out for him to be this polite to this many teams. It is imperative to next season and to the future of this franchise that he move immediately. And by move, I mean hire John Farrell as manager and fill the positions of scouting director and assistant general manager by the end of this week.
