Another Candidate (And a Better One)

Boston Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell is reportedly in the running for the Pirates’ managing job. Farrell, whose Red Sox pitchers have been terrible in the American League Championship Series, has connections with General Manager Neal Huntington dating back to Cleveland, where Farrell was the Director of Player Development until last season.

That’s Odd . . .

Syracuse agreed today to give a contract extension to Mike Hopkins, who is going to be the successor to Jim Boeheim.  I understand giving contract extensions to head coaches and all, but to an assistant so that he can be the successor?  That’s usually not something that’s announced to the public.

Neal Huntington is taking is time in deciding on the next manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The story says that Huntington has spent time basically putting the organization in order and figuring out just how bad the situation that he inherited is.
