Recchi on his way out?
Rumors are swirling around the Penguins, particularly aging winger Mark Recchi. Recchi, who has been scratched for the last five contests, is understandably disgruntled with his position and may or may not have been told to seek a trade.
He was brought back this season and expected to, along with Gary Roberts, take a
leadership role on the team. Alas, neither had the start that they expected, but Recchi’s contributions were less than Roberts (one goal and some ugly, ugly hockey), so he was sat in preference of Tyler Kennedy and Colby Armstrong. Neither of those players deserves to sit right now as they both have been vital to the potential resurgence of the Penguins and, at this point in his career, Recchi is probably the least valuable forward on the roster to what the Penguins are trying to accomplish.
Ray Shero and company should not expect to get much in return for the veteran forward in part due to the fact that he would be a rental and in part due to the fact that he simply isn’t that good at this point, but he would clear up a roster spot that the Penguins could do something with (Alex Goligoski at some point, maybe? Jonathan Filewich? Ryan Stone?).
Recchi and the Penguins is clearly not going to work out anymore and it would be better for both parties if he has been given the go-ahead to negotiate a trade.
