Happy New Year’s
Matt and I would like to wish all of the readers of this site a happy and safe New Year’s. That includes:
- No more serious injuries. From Marvel Smith to Willie Parker to Levance Fields to Mike Cook to Gary Roberts, serious injuries have been plaguing Pittsburgh teams recently. Those need to end.
- Neal Huntington to officially receive the nickname Opie. The man looks way too much like Ron Howard to not have this nickname.
- The Sabres-Penguins game to go off without a hitch. The game is way too intriguing and has way too much of a potential cool factor. It better live up to the hype.
- The Nuttings to get caught in some type of tax evasion scheme, leading to them selling the team to Mark Cuban. The Pirates need someone to spend money on their team. Cuban wants to be a baseball owner. He is from Pittsburgh. If the Nuttings were forced to sell their team at a bargain basement price, there is no way that Cuban would be able to prevent himself from buying them.
- The renewal of the Pitt-Penn State rivalry. This is something that definitely needs to happen. Both teams need to revamp their somewhat stagnant football programs and reach the national title level that they were at 25 years ago. Imagine a yearly football game, including throwback uniforms, where the intensity was even higher than it was during the Pitt/WVU game this year. Many players from both teams picked between Joe Paterno and Dave Wannstedt, making the potential rivalry that much more interesting.
- An elite winger for Sidney Crosby. In reading a column recently (I forget where it was), someone compared the Pens to the Lightning. They have a few stars, but have not built around those stars yet. Crosby needs a scoring winger to play alongside him if he is going to take this team to the next level. There have been rumors about Marian Hossa and Jonathan Cheechoo recently, but rumors and trades are two entirely different things.
- The Patriots to lose. Because that is something that we can all root for.
