Zack Stoudt likes Louisville more than Pitt
Zack Stoudt made Pitt’s trade with the Louisville Cardinals complete today, serving as the return in a deal that started in December when Tino Sunseri decided to drop his commitment to Louisville in order to attend Pitt. Signs that Stoudt was wavering on his commitment to Pitt began to crop up last week when the QB flew to Boise State to check out the program, but he had not officially decommitted until today.
The quarterback situation at Pitt will still be just fine, as the Panthers have Bill Stull (senior), Greg Cross (junior), and Pat Bostick (sophomore) as well as Sunseri, who will likely redshirt this coming season. Pitt is still loaded at the position and, with Stoudt’s change of heart, has a clear progression there, with Bostick and Stull competing for the starting job in 2008, Bostick and Cross competing in 2009, Bostick starting in 2010, and Sunseri starting in at least 2011 if not 2012 as well. If anything, Stoudt did Wannstedt and Pitt a favor by decommitting, even though he may come back to haunt them while playing for the Cardinals.
Stoudt’s decommitting may have actually helped Pitt in some respects, opening up a scholarship for another defensive player or lineman, both of whom were rather undersold in Pitt’s otherwise awesome recruiting class. If Pitt could pick up one or two solid three star recruits with rising potential at DE, LB, or OL this class would have the potential to be one of the best in school history due to the numerous strong skill players who are coming in to a solid core.
If Sunseri is as legitimate of a recruit as his ESPN the Magazine profile in the latest issue makes him out to be, then Stoudt, who has drawn comparisons to Brady Quinn from his high school coach, has the potential to be an excellent college player as well. Both are three star quarterback recruits, but Just think, in 2011 the Big East championship may come down to Sunseri (along with his potentially very impressive supporting cast) facing off against Stoudt and the Cardinals.
