The Ghost of Matt Wieters
This does not deserve its own post, but Matt Wieters hit two home runs against Pirate A-ball affiliate Lynchburg in his professional debut Friday. Why does that name sound familiar to many of you? Oh yeah, because he’s the guy that should be making his professional debut at Lynchburg, not at Frederick, part of the Orioles’ system. He’s the player who Dave Littlefield picked Daniel Moskos over (Okay, Jared Parker, Jason Heyward or Ross Detweiler would have been just as good, but Wieters was the premier prospect available and the one that the Pirates will take heat for in five years). Wow, what a waste of a pick. It is already becoming obvious that Pirate fans are going to cringe every time they hear Wieters’ name.
